IASG STAATSKONGRESS

OFFICIAL RULES FOR COMPETITIONS

IASG Culture Competitions

All culture competitions are judged on the same level, unless otherwise indicated or unless volume of entries necessitates a split.  Native speakers may participate in competitions marked with an asterisk (*).

Each student must have an official Culture Competition Label filled out upon entry.  The official form for these was included in your school’s registration materials and may also be downloaded from the IASG website:  www.IASGerman.org.  The student’s name should not appear on the front of the project.  Students may enter as many culture competitions as they wish, but only one entry per category is allowed.  Adherence to German-speaking culture is required.

Judges reserve the right to combine categories if entries are scarce, or separate entries if they are too numerous and/or of exceptionally high quality.

Club Displays

Clubs should bring scrapbooks, posters of club activities, German related projects, etc. to give new German Clubs an opportunity to see what is going on around the state.

Poster – Theme

Must be normal poster board (22” x 28”), in color or black and white, must be original, with no copyrighted figures, and all words must be in German.

Poster – Charts or Maps

Charts and maps may vary in size and media.  Charts or maps teach or clarify.  Cite the sources of the chart or map.

Photo Essay

This may be an individual or group project.  Photos may either be in black and white, color, or a combination of both.  Any size photo is acceptable.  The minimum number of photos is 10, and the maximum is 20.  Photos must be mounted on only one sheet of poster board (22” x 28”).  Photos may concern any subject, but they must be accompanied by a narrative story in German.  The story must be written on or attached to the poster board next to or under the pictures.

Shirt Design*

No German Club T-shirts.  Must be German related, with all words in German and a minimum of five different words, no maximum.  No store bought decals.  The design may be silk-screened, painted or stitched on a T-shirt or sweatshirt.  The judging criteria are as follows:

Handicrafts*

Every article must illustrate a clearly recognizable German theme or subject.  The following explanations may give some direction to your projects:

Sculpture – should be handmade only, no molds, and should be a figure of some sort, either a dome, in the round, or a relief cut from a flat surface.

Models – should fit inside a box that is no larger the 24” x 24”.

The judging criteria are the same as for Shirt Design.

Miscellaneous*

Miscellaneous culture projects are those which do not fall into any of the other categories.  Projects may not be entered in the miscellaneous category simply to avoid penalty for failure to comply with rules in another category.  Any cartoons or other characters must be original.  Judging criteria are the same as for Shirt Design.
